How to Fabricate a Metal Work Table

How to Fabricate a Metal Work Table

A metal work table provides a strong, durable flat surface for numerous jobs, hobbies and crafts. Metal work tables are commonly used for welding, grinding and cutting. These tables are resistant to most stains, clean easily and will not buckle under heavy loads. This metal table is two feet wide and three feet long; however the dimensions of the supplies can be adjusted to make any size work table. Welding equipment and skills are required to produce this metal work table. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Miter cut the edges of two 36-inch bars and the 24-inch bars. Use the square to measure a 45 degree angle on the ends of the bars and mark it with a grease pencil. Put on the gloves and mask before cutting. Cut the bars on the angle with the reciprocating saw and metal cutting blade so that the bars can be placed together to form a rectangle.

    2

Clamp the bars together in a rectangle form with the two 36-inch bars as the sides and the 24-inch bars as the ends. Weld the bars together to create the top of the table frame. Let the weld cool and test the quality of the welded joints before moving forward.

    3

Place the frame on a flat surface and stand one 36-inch bar in one corner for the leg. Use a c-clamp to hold the leg in place and weld the frame to the leg. Repeat this process for the other three legs. Allow the weld to cool before continuing. Check the weld and make sure all the legs are attached well.

    4

Stand the frame up on its legs and lay the metal sheet on top of the metal frame. Tack weld the corners and tack weld every foot on the sides and once in the middle of the ends, Tack welding will reduce the distortion caused by the weld of a full weld.

    5

Weld a full weld around the entire top of the table to attach the top to the frame.
