DIY Bar Furniture Projects

Many people dream of having their own home bar. This is a place where they can entertain their friends, create a relaxing environment and have their favorite beer on tap. Having the bar alone, however, is not enough. If you truly want to have the complete bar experience, you will need to build furniture for your bar as well. Does this Spark an idea?

Bar Stool

The bar stool is one of the most important bar accessories. It allows people to sit at the bar itself, enjoy a beverage and speak to the host or bartender. Building a basic bar stool can be done out of pieces of 2-by-4 and plywood. When building the bar stool, make sure that you make the legs high enough so patrons can sit at a natural height next to the bar. They should be able to comfortably place their elbows and forearms on the top of the bar. This may mean that you will have to place a footrest either on the stools (not a bad idea if they are tall; the foot rest will add support to the structure) or on the bar itself. When constructing these, also think about padding for the top. This can be easily attached using some foam covered by fabric that is stapled to the seat. Your guests will thank you when they sit for a few hours and watch a football game.

Belly Bar and Chairs

Another piece of bar furniture you may want to build is a tall bar table, called belly bars. These tables are high enough to comfortably place your drink while you are standing up. Belly bars are traditionally 40 inches tall, although, because this is your bar, you can build the table to any height you want. These are easily put together with standard pieces of lumber, a few 2-by-4s, a piece of 4-by-4, and a piece of plywood. If you want to make this a round table you will need either a band saw or jigsaw. If you don't want to just have people standing at these tables, you can add bar stools to give people a place to sit. Also, you can go the extra mile and build some bar chairs to specifically go around the belly bars. The basic pattern would be the same as the bar stool, but you could add a back support for extra comfort.
