Christmas Dining Table Ideas

Setting a welcoming, beautiful dining table for Christmas-time guests is a special art. Let your dining table decorations reflect yourself, your home and your family to make your guests feel at home and enjoy their time spent with you at the holidays. Remember that Christmas decorating doesn't have to be all red and green; use warm plaids to make the table feel homey; stripes and dots for whimsical, modern dcor or metallics to brighten the table. Does this Spark an idea?

Hand-Crafted

If you love making holiday craft projects and want your Christmas dining table to reflect your creative touch, put together a hand-crafted Christmas table that guests will remember. Keep the linens simple, with red, green or white tablecloth and napkins, so that your crafts can really shine. Make place cards or favors personal by using silver or gold glitter glue to write each guest's name on a ball ornament, and make your own napkin rings and placemats with a Christmas fabric or embroidery design. If you have children, let them help too: you can lay the table with their handmade decorations as centerpieces, or let homemade ornaments adorn a small tabletop tree. Bake your own Christmas cookies as favors, and present them in gift-wrapped boxes or stamped brown paper bags tied with peppermint-striped ribbon.

Elegant

To set an elegant Christmas table, remember that less is more. Simplicity is what creates an elegant feeling. Dress the table in white linens and use fine silverware and glassware. A Christmas china pattern is a great idea for an elegant Christmas dining table feeling, or you can opt to use gold- or silver-rimmed plates.

Let the holiday spirit unfold in the candles and centerpieces. A fresh arrangement of poinsettias, evergreen branches, holly, ivy and mistletoe is a wonderful addition to a Christmas table, or you can center the decor around a symbolic Yule log. Ivory candles, silver serving dishes and cranberry garlands will round out an elegant Christmas table.

Original

Let your own tastes rule the day if you are confident in your decorating skills: design an ivory-and-sage table, or a table all in silvers and golds. Fill crystal wine glasses with fresh cranberries topped by white roses for an unusual Christmas table accent, or gift-wrap the table with sheer organza fabric and wide satin ribbon in your color preferences. Spray bare wood branches with glitter paint or glue, and add small birds, fruits or flowers for a one-of-a-kind centerpiece; or scatter nuts and hard candies all over the table for guests to snack on. Fill glass jars and bowls with colorfully-wrapped candies, and make chains of candy canes to hang from every corner, or serve guests from novelty plastic plates and glasses for a fun, kid-friendly party.
