A fireplace is a focal point you can easily play up in any living space. Whether you have a simple fireplace with a minimalistic design, or a classic fireplace with elaborate woodwork, you can use it as a centerpiece in your living room, family room or den. By arranging your furniture in front of the fireplace, you allow the fireplace to become the center of attention in the room, which will help pull your design together. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Place a large area rug in front of the fireplace. Position the rug so that the center of the fireplace lines up with the center of the rug. Having an area rug in place will draw the eye toward the fireplace, while defining the sitting furniture as a conversational area.
2Position the sofa so that it rests between the wall opposite the fireplace and past the edge of the rug. The sofa should face the fireplace.
3Position the loveseat between a shorter side of the rug and a wall perpendicular to the sofa, so that the sofa and the loveseat create an "L" shape.
4Place the chair opposite the loveseat at the end of the rug. Turn the chair at an angle so that it faces both the fireplace and the sofa. This will prevent your furniture arrangement from looking squared off or dull.
5Place the coffee table in the center of the area rug. Place the coffee table close enough to the sofa so that is within reaching distance, but far enough away from the sofa to create a walking space between the two pieces.
6Place one end table between the sofa and the loveseat. Ensure you can reach the end table from the either the sofa or the loveseat in a seated position. Place the second end table beside the chair at the same angle so that it can be easily reached from the chair.
