A bottlecap coffee table is a great way to display your collection of bottle caps. Whether it be to showcase caps from import lagers or vintage soft drink caps, a bottlecap coffee table is more than just furniture; it's art. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Lay the Styrofoam to completely cover the table and then cut it in 3 proportional pieces. Use the box cutter to make three cuts running the width of the Styrofoam.
2Remove each piece of Styrofoam one at a time. Apply an even coat of wood glue as each piece of Styrofoam is removed, being sure to fit the pieces back into their section of the table after the glue is applied to each individual section. Setting times will vary according to the strength of the glue.
3Choose an axis of the table, vertical or horizontal, and then press a single bottle cap into one of the corners of the table. Press the cap down into the Styrofoam. Follow your horizontal or vertical axis away from the corner by placing bottle caps one by one along the axis.
4After creating a line of caps that spans from one end of the table to the other, come across the top of that line with another set of bottle caps. Repeat steps until the table is covered in bottle caps. You may wish to incorporate a pattern or design. Use your creativity!
5Use the paint brush to apply the finishing resin. Make even strokes with the brush, applying an even coating of resin as you move from one side of the table to the other. Use an old credit card or something of similar nature to smooth the top of the drying resin. Leave resin to cure overnight.
